Holla Back DC Spotlight

Dear Friends and Family,

Since April 2009, I have been working with a friend to develop Holla Back DC!, a blog that tracks and raises awareness about gender-based pubic sexual harassment (commonly known as street harassment) in the DC metro area. Chai and I started Holla Back DC! with the goal of providing a space for individuals to share their experiences and track these incidents in order to give a voice to the problem. Since starting the blog, we have had over 80,000 visitors, collected 150 personal experiences of public sexual harassment, and been featured in a number of news and blog articles.

However, there is a lot more we can and want to be doing. Through our online dialogue, conducting a “talking tour” with activists in the area, and non-profits organizations across the nation, we want to take HBDC! to the next level. One of those ideas includes making DC a safer place for women and LGBTQ individuals by providing safe and free rides on the weekend nights through the support of RightRides and ZipCar.

In order to do that, we need money and one way we can receive funding is through a contest conducted by Ideablob to win $10,000.

We need your help in order to win the $10,000. Please take a minute to register with Ideablob and vote for us. Once you register and vote, please spread the word and urge others to do the same, even if you are not located in DC! We need all the support we can get from friends, family, co-workers, and strangers.

Chapter Launches Programs to Serve Greater Atlanta Area



ATLANTA – The Younger Women’s Task Force (YWTF-ATL), a 501c3 charitable organization, founded earlier this year celebrates the start of programs to serve the Greater Atlanta area. An international project of the National Council for Women’s Organization (NCWO), YWTF-ATL will focus on Women’s Health, Career Mentorship, Environment, Education, and Violence in Younger Women issues among women aged 20-39.



“YWTF-ATL has in incredible opportunity to organize and advocate for issues that affect younger women the most in Atlanta, including Health Care reform, career development, financial success, and violence.” said Terica Scott, YWTF-ATL Chapter Founder and Director.



“I began this chapter in Atlanta because Atlanta presents an advantageous landscape to explore the women’s movement while implementing programs throughout the metro area to address the issues that affect the everyday lives of younger women most. Through the leadership of the Board of Directors and its members, YWTF-ATL will bring great change to the region,” says Scott.



Membership to the organization is open to anyone who supports the mission of the organization. The chapter meets regularly on the second Saturday of the month at 1159 La Vista Rd in Atlanta.



The chapter will officially launch its programs during an evening celebration event on Thursday, September 24. The event will take place in Atlanta’s Glenwood Park neighborhood at the Vino Libro restaurant located at 933 Garrett Street SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30316. In observance of Career and Mentoring Month, YWTF ATL Launches a Career Networking Group!
This month we will focus on opportunities to enrich the careers of younger women through building resources and networks. We also plan to create mentorship outreach opportunities and build a library of professional development resources to share with our members.
Join the Career Networking Group every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 1159 La Vista Rd, Atlanta, GA at 7:30 am. This event is a special networking group targeted at younger women.
This group will also feature monthly guest speakers and professional development.
Purpose: Network and share resources, job leads, tools, referrals.
• All professions welcomed.
• Bring business cards and elevator speeches.
• Cost: $1 Donation to YWTF-ATL Chapter
